An Overview

As creative director for this project, it was a unique challenge to take a derogatory term and turn it into something positive and celebrated. But that's exactly what we aimed to do with A Golden Hoosier. We wanted to honor the blue collar workers who have built and shaped this city, and create a space where they could come together and share their stories.

The team worked hard to create a atmosphere filled with nostalgia and history, paying tribute to the hardworking individuals who have called St. Louis home. From the décor to the menu, every detail was carefully chosen to reflect the spirit of the Golden Hoosier.

This project was truly a labor of love, and the end result is a one of a kind space that the city has never seen before. It's a place where anyone can come and feel a sense of pride in their roots, and share in the rich history of St. Louis. So if you're a hoosier at heart, or just someone who appreciates a good story, be sure to check out A Golden Hoosier.

Problem Solving

One of the main challenges we faced was how to balance the nostalgia and history of the space with a modern and inviting atmosphere. The pub had a rich history, but it was important for us to update and refresh the space so that it felt welcoming to all members of the community. We worked to preserve the character of the space while also making it more functional and comfortable for customers. This meant finding creative solutions for things like lighting, seating, and overall layout. We also focused on creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere by incorporating a variety of seating options and design elements that would appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds. By finding the right balance between the old and the new, we were able to create a space that felt like home for both long-time patrons and new visitors.

My Role

As the creative director for the Golden Hoosier, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work on a project that was so deeply personal to the founder. His passion for the outdoors and the magic of experiencing wildlife up close was truly contagious, and it was a pleasure to help bring his vision to life. From curating the museum-quality taxidermy to weaving history throughout every corner of the space, I worked to bring the story of the Golden Hoosier to life in a way that would be meaningful to both the local community and the rising chef's in the area. It was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I am proud of the end result - a welcoming and nostalgicically inviting space that truly captures the essence of the Golden Hoosier.
